SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 13:4

13:4a Then Jehoahaz sought the favor of the LORD,

Then Jehoahaz pleaded with Yahweh for mercy,

-or-

Jehoahaz begged Yahweh to be kind ⌊to Israel⌋ .

13:4b and the LORD listened to him

and Yahweh paid attention to him.

-or-

Yahweh listened/responded ⌊to Jehoahaz⌋ .

13:4c because He saw the oppression

For Yahweh saw the oppression/suffering of Israel

-or-

For Yahweh had seen the cruel/harsh way

13:4d that the king of Aram had inflicted on Israel.

and that/how⌋ Aram’s king was mistreating/oppressing its ⌊people⌋ .

-or-

the Aramean/Syrian king was treating ⌊the people of⌋ Israel.

13:4b-d (reordered and combined)

Yahweh saw how cruel the king of Aram was being to ⌊the people of⌋ Israel. So he listened to Jehoahaz.

-or-

Yahweh saw that the king of Aram/Syria was making the people of Israel suffer greatly. So he responded to Jehoahaz.
