SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 13:5

13:5a So the LORD gave Israel a deliverer,

Scholars are not certain to whom this refers. It may be looking forward to Jeroboam II. See 2 Kings 14:27.

So Yahweh gave Israel a savior.

-or-

He/Yahweh sent someone to rescue/save ⌊the people of⌋ Israel.

13:5b and they escaped the power of the Arameans.

The people of Israel were able to go free/out from the control of Aram.

-or-

The Arameans/Syrians stopped having power over them.

13:5a-b (combined)

So the Lord provided someone to rescue the Israelites from the tyranny of the Arameans. (Good News Translation)

13:5c Then the people of Israel lived in their own homes as they had before.

They could live ⌊safely⌋ in their own places, as they had been living earlier.

-or-

Then the people of Israel again began to live ⌊peacefully⌋ in their own towns and villages.
