SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 20:7

20:7a Then the king of Israel summoned all the elders of the land and said,

Then the king of Israel called for all the leaders of Israel ⌊to come to him⌋. He said to them,

So then Ahab called/summoned all the ⌊local/community⌋ leaders of Israel. He told them,

20:7b “Please take note and see that this man is looking for trouble,

“Listen (plur) to this! This man wants to make trouble.
-or-
“I want you (plur) to know/recognize that this Ben-Hadad is trying/planning to cause trouble ⌊for us(incl.) ⌋.

20:7c for when he demanded my wives, my children, my silver, and my gold,

For he sent ⌊a message⌋ demanding/claiming my wives, my children, my silver, and my gold.

In his ⌊first⌋ message he said that I must give him my wives and my children, my silver and my gold.

20:7d I did not deny him.”

And I did not hold back anything from him.”

I agreed to everything.”

For I did not refuse him when he sent ⌊a message⌋ claiming/demanding my wives, my children, my silver, and my gold.”
