The God of Israel can be rendered “the God the people of Israel worship” (see 7.3).

For Behold see 1.6.

This people is more literally “them, this people.” Traduction œcuménique de la Bible follows the Septuagint in dropping “this people” as a later addition to the text. However, the construction is not too unusual for biblical Hebrew, and the matter may be handled translationally without resorting to a textual change. Translators may say “my people” (Good News Translation), “these people,” or “these [who are] my people.”

Wormwood is a bitter tasting plant, and so the basis for Good News Translation “I will give my people bitter plants to eat….”
