Chaldean

The name that is transliterated as “Chaldean” in English means “astrologer,” “wanderers.” (Source: Cornwall / Smith 1997 )

In Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) it is translated with the sign that combines “Mesopotamia” (see here) and “spreading out,” since the Chaldeans originated in southern Mesopotamia and spread out from there. (Source: Missão Kophós )

Translation commentary on Judith 5:6

Descended from the Chaldeans: According to Gen 11.28 Abraham’s family lived in “Ur of the Chaldeans.” Good News Translation customarily uses “Babylonia/Babylonians” to refer to this land and its people. “Babylonians” may be a bit anachronistic, but it simplifies a confusing situation, and it serves to identify the people with the southern part of Mesopotamia.
