SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 5:13

5:13a Naaman’s servants, however, approached him and said,

But Naaman’s staff/men approached him and said,

-or-

But Naaman’s men reached out to him. ⌊One of them⌋ said,

5:13b “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing,

“⌊Honorable⌋ one/father, if the man of God had told you (sing.) to do something difficult,

-or-

“Sir, what the prophet has told you (sing.) to do ⌊is not hard⌋ . ⌊But⌋ if it had been hard,

5:13c would you not have done it?

you (sing.) would have done it, would you not? ⌊Of course!

-or-

you (sing.) would have done it!

5:13d How much more, then, when he tells you,

So you (sing.) should be very happy ⌊to do it⌋ when ⌊all⌋ he says is,

-or-

So you (sing.) should certainly ⌊do what he says⌋ since he is ⌊only⌋ telling you

-or-

So you should be willing to obey his ⌊simple⌋ command

5:13e ‘Wash and be cleansed’?”

‘Wash (sing.) and become clean/pure’!”

-or-

to wash ⌊yourself⌋ and become ⌊ritually⌋ pure/clean.”

-or-

to remove the impure/defiling ⌊disease⌋ by washing yourself!”
