For while we lived and committed iniquity we did not consider what we should suffer after death: This verse ends Ezra’s speech, which began in verse 116. The conjunction For may be omitted. Good News Bible may be used as a model for this verse, and so may Contemporary English Version, which has:

• We have sinned each day that we have lived, not knowing that we will suffer when we die.
