For the sword of one shall devour him who was with him; but he shall also fall by the sword in the last days: See 2 Esd 11.35. The meaning of this verse is not difficult, but Revised Standard Version makes it exceptionally unclear. The following adjustment of Good News Bible‘s model should help:

• One of them will kill the other; then, at the end of time, he will also be killed [or, someone will kill him].
