36:4a Then Neco king of Egypt made Eliakim brother of Jehoahaz king over Judah and Jerusalem

The king of Egypt replaced Jehoahaz and made his brother Eliakim be king over Judah and Jerusalem.

Then King Neco of Egypt made Eliakim to be king of Jerusalem and ⌊the kingdom of⌋ Judah. Eliakim was Jehoahaz’ ⌊younger⌋ brother.

36:4b and he changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim.

He changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim.

King Necho gave Eliakim a new name. He called him Jehoiakim.

36:4c But Neco took Eliakim’s brother Jehoahaz and carried him off to Egypt.

Then King Neco, the king of Egypt, took Jehoahaz, Eliakim’s brother, to Egypt.

But King Neco took Jehoahaz, the ⌊older⌋ brother of Eliakim, to Egypt ⌊as his prisoner⌋.
