The Hebrew, Latin, and Greek that is translated as “mourn” or similar in English is translated in Newari as “have one’s heart broken” or “have a bursting heart” (source: Newari Back Translation).

Translation commentary on 1 Maccabees 9:41

Thus the wedding was turned into mourning and the voice of their musicians into a funeral dirge: Compare Amos 8.10. Contemporary English Version provides a helpful model for this verse, saying:

• A wedding was turned
into a funeral,
and wedding music
into funeral songs.

Another possible model is:

• And so the wedding became a time of mourning, and the music turned to sounds of grieving.
