19:2a So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying,

So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah with this message:

Then Jezebel sent this message to Elijah:

So Jezebel told one of her men/servants to go to Elijah and say,

19:2b “May the gods deal with me, and ever so severely,

“May the gods do the same to me and even more
-or-
“May the gods punish me very harshly,
-or-
“May the gods strike me dead

19:2c if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like the lives of those you killed!”

if I fail to do to you (sing) what you (sing) did to those prophets by this time tomorrow.”
-or-
if I do not kill you (sing) by this time tomorrow, just as you (sing) killed the prophets ⌊of Baal⌋.”
-or-
if within one day I have not taken/destroyed your (sing) life as you did to ⌊my⌋ prophets!”

19:2b-c (reordered)

“I swear that within twenty-four hours you will be as dead as those prophets! May the gods strike me dead if I let you live!”
