Translation commentary on 1 Chronicles 24:24

The sons of Uzziel, Micah …: In the Masoretic Text the word for sons is plural but only one son is named. Therefore New International Version and NET Bible say “The son of Uzziel: Micah….” Contemporary English Version avoids the problem by rewording the whole verse as “Uzziel was the father of Micah and the grandfather of Shamir.” However, the word sons in this context is probably intended in the sense of “descendants.”

Since the focus in this verse seems to be on Shamir, the last person named, some translations restructure it and place this name first (so Good News Translation, Parola Del Signore: La Bibbia in Lingua Corrente). But see the comments on verses 20 and 22.
