SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Corinthians 9:16

9:16a Yet when I preach the gospel, I have no reason to boast,

But I do not boast about ⌊simply⌋ preaching the good news,
-or-
It is not the preaching of the gospel itself that I can boast about, ⌊it is giving up my right to be paid for it that I boast about⌋.

9:16b because I am obligated to preach.

because I am obliged to do this.
-or-

The Lord commanded me⌋ to preach the gospel and I cannot refuse.

9:16c Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!

How terrible it will be for me if I do not preach the gospel!
-or-
If I do not tell the good news, he will judge me!

SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Corinthians 11:20

11:20 Now then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat.

When you (plur.) meet together, what you eat is not the Lord’s Supper,
-or-
When you eat the meal in honor of the Lord together, your behavior is not fitting for people who eat this meal,
-or-
When you eat together to remember the death of the Lord, you are not thinking about him,

12:18a But in fact, God has arranged the members of the body, every one of them,

But the truth is, God has arranged every one of the parts in the body
-or-

12:18b according to His design.

in just the way he wanted them to be.
-or-
right in the place he decided they should be.

Fellow believers, if I speak in unknown/miraculous languages when I visit you,

14:6b how will I benefit you,

-or-
