This verse is a bridge between verses 2-8 and verses 10-16. It can be seen as closing the previous thoughts since it clearly echoes verse 2. It also serves to introduce the thoughts of the young Solomon in verses 10-16, as he thinks about what Wisdom might bring him. Some translators might want to make this the closing verse of the previous paragraph. Other translators might want it to be the opening verse of a new paragraph. It works either way.

Therefore I determined to take her to live with me: Compare verse 2, where Good News Translation has “I … wanted to make her my bride.” New Jerusalem Bible translates “I therefore determined to take her to share my life.” In this line a noun that points to marriage is used in Greek. So translators may say “So I decided to make Wisdom my wife and bring her home to live with me.”

Knowing that she would give me good counsel and encouragement in cares and grief: Good News Translation does well here, but it could be restated as follows: “because I knew that she would give me good advice and encourage me when I was worried or sad.”
