For by the same means by which thou didst punish our enemies thou didst call us to thyself and glorify us: For by the same means by which could just as well be translated “For by that very same event.” The meaning is that the death of the Egyptian firstborn was the act by which God glorified the Israelites and made them his own people. A possible alternative model for this verse is:
• For with that one act [or, by that very same event/act] you punished our enemies, and gave us great honor [or, face] by making us your own people.
