Translation commentary on Tobit 13:13

Go … rejoice: These imperative verbs are singular. Jerusalem is being addressed (compare verse 10).

As in verse 9, the children of the righteous are “the righteous.”

They will be gathered together: In languages that do not have the passive voice, translators may say, for example, “God will gather them together from…,” or combine the two final lines as “The Lord who lives forever will gather them together, and they will praise him.” The addition in Good News Translation of “from exile” helps by explaining why the people need to be gathered.

The Lord of the ages; that is, “the eternal Lord.”
