And you shall offer a burnt offering, a pleasing odor to the LORD: As in 28.4, the Hebrew verb rendered offer is the more general one meaning “do” or “make,” so a specific verb such as “sacrifice” (Revised English Bible) is not needed here. One young bull, one ram, seven male lambs a year old without blemish: These were the animals the Israelites had to offer as the burnt offering during the New Year Festival. For the Hebrew expression rendered young bull (literally “young bull, son of a cow”), see 7.15. The Hebrew word for ram refers to a male sheep (see 28.11), older than the male lambs (see 28.3).
