Therefore, when I, your servant, learned all this, I fled from them: Therefore is left implied by Good News Translation and Contemporary English Version, but it is better to keep it explicit. Good News Translation omits the submissive phrase your servant. In the next verse, where it occurs twice more, Good News Translation will work the idea in by allowing Judith to address Holofernes as “Sir.” Contemporary English Version keeps it by placing it at the end of this verse: “I am your servant.” However, in some languages, translators may keep the phrase where it is in Revised Standard Version.

God has sent me to accomplish with you things that will astonish the whole world …: Here Judith is at her ironic best. She knows what she means, but leads Holofernes to think she is going to enable the Assyrians to win a great victory. To accomplish with you things … may be rendered “to help you to do things…” (Contemporary English Version).

The whole world, as many as shall hear about them: Revised Standard Version is awkwardly literal. It means nothing more than what Good News Translation says much more clearly: “everyone in the entire world who hears about it.”
