Do you know that…?: This expression is often rendered “Are you aware that…?” There seems to be little basis for “Don’t you know?” (Good News Translation), which would indicate that the questioners assumed Gedaliah already knew about the plot to kill him.
Ishmael the son of Nethaniah is rendered simply as “Ishmael” by Good News Translation, but because he has not been mentioned since verse 8, most translations retain the identification.
Gedaliah has already been identified as the son of Ahikam, and it is probably more natural in most languages to drop this identification here and through the rest of this account.
