Translation commentary on Acts 10:5

The phrase to call for a certain man is equivalent in some languages to “to find out where a certain man lives” or “to find a certain man.”

“A certain Simon who is also called Peter” appears in the Good News Translation as a certain man whose full name is Simon Peter. The English idiom is best rendered either as the Good News Translation has done or else by translating something like “a certain man known as Simon Peter.”
