Contemporary English Version makes it clear that this section also continues the letter started at 2Macc 1.10 by inserting the subheading The Letter Continues before this verse. Other languages may find this helpful.

It was also made clear that being possessed of wisdom Solomon offered sacrifice for the dedication and completion of the temple: The clause It was also made clear refers back to the “records” of verse 1. It may be rendered “The records also tell us.” Being possessed of wisdom Solomon is simply an emphatic statement that Solomon was wise. Good News Bible says “the wise King Solomon,” which is all that needs to be said and does not interfere with the narrative. However, we could stress his wisdom more by saying “King Solomon was wise.” For offered sacrifice for the dedication and completion of the temple, see 1~Kgs 8.62-64. Dedication refers to setting the Temple aside for sacred use, making it very holy [or, taboo]. This great holiness meant that the High Priest was the only person who could enter the innermost room of the Temple (the Holy of Holies). Anyone else entering it would die.

We suggest the following model for this verse:

• The records are also clear about what happened when they [or, people] finished building the Temple, and the wise King Solomon [or, Solomon, the wise king] offered a sacrifice to dedicate the Temple.
