And then the Lord will disclose these things means the Lord will reveal the location of the holy objects. Good News Bible says “At that time he will reveal where these things are hidden” (similarly Contemporary English Version), which is a good clear translation. But in languages that do not have a passive voice, we may say “… where we have hidden these things.”
And the glory of the Lord and the cloud will appear, as they were shown in the case of Moses: The connector and may be rendered “At that time.” For the glory of the Lord, see Exo 16.7 and 24.15-18. Good News Bible says “the dazzling light of his [the Lord’s] presence,” and Contemporary English Version has “God’s own dazzling light.” The Hebrew word kavod used in Exo 16.7 and 24.15-18 refers to God’s splendor and magnificence, and since it is thought of as visible, “light” is a useful metaphor, and “dazzling light” helps convey the idea of splendor. However, there is also the idea of light showing God’s presence, that he is with his people. Good News Bible does this with “dazzling light of his presence.” Another way to say this is “God’s blazing light showing that he is present.” The definite article the in the cloud indicates that it was a cloud known to the writer’s readers (see Exo 16.10). As they were shown in the case of Moses may be rendered “just as it did [or, appeared] in the time of Moses [or, when Moses was alive]” or “It will be just as it was in the time of Moses.”
And as Solomon asked that the place should be specially consecrated refers to the time when Solomon prayed as he was dedicating the Temple, and God’s dazzling light appeared in a cloud (see 1~Kgs 8.10-11). And as may be expanded to “and also at that time when.” Asked is better rendered “prayed” (Good News Bible) in this context. The place refers to the Temple, after it was just finished. Specially consecrated is literally “consecrated greatly,” that is, made very holy indeed. Good News Bible renders the place should be specially consecrated as “the Temple might be dedicated in holy splendor,” and Contemporary English Version has “make the holy temple glorious and acceptable as a place for worship.” Both these renderings are not right. A better model is “make the Temple very holy [or, sacred].” Here is a case where “good taboo” is appropriate; for example, we may say “make the Temple great taboo.”
An alternative model for this verse is:
• Then the Lord will show where these things are hidden [or, where we have hidden these things]. At that time the dazzling light of his presence [or, showing that he is present] will appear in a cloud just as it did in the time of Moses [or, when Moses was alive], and also at the time when Solomon prayed that God would make the Temple very holy [or, have great taboo].”
