Ramoth in Gilead: This city is often referred to in this way or as “Ramoth-gilead,” probably to distinguish it from other places with the same name, such as “Ramoth of the Negeb” (1 Sam 30.27). The Hebrew name Ramoth actually means “heights” or “high places.” Ramoth is the plural of the Hebrew word ramah, which is also used as a place name for as many as a dozen locations. This Ramoth is not the same as the “Ramoth” mentioned in verse 73, which was in the territory of Issachar.

Mahanaim is first mentioned in Gen 32.2. The meaning of this Hebrew name is “two camps.”
