8:6a But the leaders of Succoth asked,

But the rulers of Sukkoth answered him:

8:6b “Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in your possession,

“Have you (sing.) already caught Zebah and Zalmunna?

“You have not captured King Zebah and King Zalmunna yet

8:6c that we should give bread to your army?”

Why should we (excl.) give bread to your men?”
-or-
so we will not feed your soldiers. ⌊Capture them first and then we will give you food.⌋ ”
