When the Israelites cried to Yahweh to help them,

3:9b He raised up Othniel son of Caleb’s younger brother Kenaz as a deliverer to save them.

he sent Othniel to rescue them. Othniel’s father was Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. He saved them ⌊from their enemies⌋ .
