1:19a The LORD was with Judah,

Yahweh helped the people of Judah.

Yahweh was with the army of the clan of Judah.

1:19b and they took possession of the hill country;

They conquered the mountains

They took control of the towns in the hills

1:19c but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plains

but they could not drive out the people who lived on the plains

but they could not force the people who lived in the lowlands to leave ⌊their land⌋ .

1:19d because they had chariots of iron.
