9:3a Then take the flask of oil, pour it on his head, and declare,

⌊When you (plur.) are there/alone,⌋ take (sing.) the bottle of oil and pour it on his head. Say to him

⌊While you (sing.) are with Jehu in private,⌋ you must pour some of the oil from the jar on his head. Give him

9:3b ‘This is what the LORD says:

‘Yahweh says that

this message from Yahweh. Yahweh says,

9:3c I anoint you king over Israel.’

he is anointing/appointing you king of Israel.’

-or-

‘I ⌊Yahweh⌋ choose you to be the king of Israel.’

9:3d Then open the door and run. Do not delay!”

⌊As soon as you have done that,⌋ open (sing.) the door and run away! Do not wait/hesitate!”

⌊After saying that,⌋ go out the door! Leave immediately and run!”
