8:8a So the king said to Hazael, “Take a gift in your hand,

Hazael is also mentioned in 1 Kings 19:15, 17. Spell his name the same way here.

The king ⌊then⌋ said to Hazael, “Take (sing.) a present

-or-

The king told ⌊one of his men named⌋ Hazael to get some presents

8:8b go to meet the man of God

and go to see ⌊Elisha⌋ the man of God.

-or-

and take them to ⌊Elisha⌋ the prophet.

8:8c and inquire of the LORD through him,

I want him to consult Yahweh ⌊for me⌋ .

-or-

He wanted the prophet to ask Yahweh

8:8d ‘Will I recover from this illness?’”

I want him to tell me if I am going to get well ⌊or not⌋ .”

-or-

if he would get well.
