SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 8:19

8:19a Yet for the sake of His servant David,

However, because of his servant David,

-or-

But ⌊his ancestor⌋ David had served Yahweh faithfully. Because of that,

8:19b the LORD was unwilling to destroy Judah,

Yahweh refused to destroy the kingdom of Judah.

-or-

Yahweh did not want to bring/make an end to ⌊the kingdom of⌋ Judah.

8:19c since He had promised to maintain a lamp for David and his descendants forever.

He had told/assured David that his descendants would always continue ⌊to rule⌋ ⌊the kingdom of Judah⌋ .

-or-

Yahweh had promised David that one of his descendants would always ⌊be the king in Judah⌋ .

But the Lord was unwilling to destroy Judah. He preserved Judah for the sake of his servant David to whom he had promised a perpetual dynasty. (NET Bible)

But the Lord was not willing to destroy Judah, because he had promised his servant David that his servants would always continue to rule. (Good News Translation)
