SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 2:8

2:8a And Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up,

Elijah took his cloak/coat, rolled it up,

-or-

⌊Then⌋ Elijah removed his shawl, folded it,

2:8b and struck the waters,

and struck the water with it.

-or-

and beat/hit the water ⌊in/of the river⌋ with it.

2:8c which parted to the right and to the left,

The water was parted to the right and the left,

-or-

⌊Then⌋ the river split open in the middle!

2:8d so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.

and the two of them went across on dry ground!

The two men walked across on the dry path ⌊that appeared⌋ .
