SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 24:16

24:16a The king of Babylon also brought into exile to Babylon

King ⌊Nebuchadnezzar⌋ of Babylon also led away into Babylon

-or-

He/Nebuchadnezzar also ⌊captured and⌋ took/forced into Babylon

24:16b all seven thousand men of valor

the whole army of 7,000 men.

-or-

all the seven thousand men/warriors (7,000) in the army.

24:16c and a thousand craftsmen and metalsmiths—

He also took away one thousand men with skills/ability to work with wood and metal.

-or-

He also took away one thousand (1000) workmen with experience in wood and metal work.

24:16d all strong and fit for battle

In the Hebrew text 24:16c describes both the 7,000 men of 16b and the 1,000 men of 16d. To make this clear it may be best to reorder the verse parts as described below (24:16a-d, see New Revised Standard Version).

They were ⌊all⌋ strong and able to fight.

-or-

These were strong men and warlike/fighters.

24:16a-d

The king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon all the men of valor, seven thousand, the artisans and the smiths, one thousand, all of them strong and fit for war. (New Revised Standard Version)

-or-

The king of Babylon deported to Babylon all the soldiers (there were 7,000), as well as 1,000 craftsmen and metal workers. They were all good/strong/able men and warriors.
