24:1a During Jehoiakim’s reign,

During the time when Jehoiakim was ruling,

-or-

While Jehoiakim was king ⌊of Judah⌋ ,

24:1b Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon invaded.

Babylon was the capital city of the Babylonian empire.

The Hebrew verb that the Berean Standard Bible translates with the phrase “invaded” is literally “came up.”

Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon/Babylonia marched on/against the land ⌊of Judah⌋ .

-or-

King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylonia attacked.

24:1c So Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years,

For three years Jehoiakim submitted to him.

-or-

Jehoiakim ⌊surrendered and⌋ was subject/obedient to him for three years.

24:1d until he turned and rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar.

But then he turned/changed and rebelled against him.

-or-

At the end of that time he refused to obey Nebuchadnezzar any longer.
