SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 23:33

23:33a And Pharaoh Neco imprisoned Jehoahaz at Riblah in the land of Hamath

Pharaoh Necho tied him with chains at Riblah ⌊city⌋ in the land of Hamath

-or-

Pharaoh Necho ⌊king of Egypt⌋ chained him in ⌊the city of⌋ Riblah in the region of Hamath.

23:33b so that he could not reign in Jerusalem,

in order to stop/prevent him from ruling from Jerusalem.

-or-

He wanted to prevent Jehoahaz from being king in Jerusalem.

23:33c and he imposed on Judah a levy of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.

Then he forced ⌊the people of⌋ Judah to pay him taxes of 3,000 kilograms of silver and 30 kilograms of gold.

-or-

He made ⌊the kingdom of⌋ Judah pay a fine of three thousand (3,000) kilograms of silver and thirty (30) kilograms of gold.
