SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 22:20

22:20a ‘Therefore I will indeed gather you to your fathers,

Therefore I will bring you (sing.) to your ancestors,

-or-

So he will allow the king to ⌊die and⌋ join his ancestors.

22:20b and you will be gathered to your grave in peace.

and you (sing.) will receive a peaceful burial.

-or-

His people⌋ will bury him in peace.

22:20c Your eyes will not see all the calamity that I will bring on this place.’”

You ⌊yourself/personally⌋ will not see the great evil that I will cause to happen in this place.’”

-or-

He will not ⌊have to⌋ see all the destruction that Yahweh will bring upon this land.”

22:20d So they brought her answer back to the king.

Then the men returned to the king and gave/told him Huldah’s reply.

-or-

Then the messengers went back to to King Josiah and told him what Huldah had said.
