2:11a As they were walking along and talking together,

As they were walking and talking,

Elijah and Elisha walked along and talked as they went.

2:11b suddenly a chariot of fire with horses of fire appeared

a chariot of fire and horses of fire was suddenly present/there.

-or-

A fiery/flaming war-cart pulled by fiery/flaming horses appeared/arrived,

2:11c and separated the two of them,

It separated them,

-or-

⌊coming between Elijah and Elisha⌋ and separating them.

2:11d and Elijah went up into heaven in a whirlwind.

and Elijah went to heaven in a whirling/twisting wind.

-or-

A strong wind took/lifted Elijah into heaven.
