During the fourth year of King Hezekiah’s reign,

the seventh year of Hoshea’s reign over Israel,

Hoshea had been king of Israel for about seven years.

18:9c Shalmaneser king of Assyria marched against Samaria

King Shalmaneser of Assyria attacked ⌊the Israelite city of⌋ Samaria.

⌊During that year,⌋ Shalmaneser, the king of Assyria invaded ⌊Israel⌋ .

18:9d and besieged it.

He began a siege against the city.

His men/army surrounded and isolated Samaria ⌊the capital city of Israel⌋ .
