SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 18:32

18:32a until I come and take you away to a land like your own—

And then I will come and take you ⌊away⌋ to a land like your own land.

-or-

Then the king ⌊of Assyria⌋ will come ⌊to Jerusalem⌋ and will take you to a land ⌊that is⌋ like your own land.

18:32b a land of grain and new wine,

This is a land where there is corn for making bread and vineyards to give new wine;

-or-

In this ⌊good⌋ land there is wheat and new wine,

18:32c a land of bread and vineyards,

bread and vineyards,

-or-

plenty of bread and plenty of grapes.

18:32d a land of olive trees and honey—

a land where there are olive trees for fresh olive oil and honey.

-or-

There are olive trees and honey.

18:32e so that you may live and not die.

Choose life instead of death!

-or-

So choose to live! Do not choose to die.

18:32f But do not listen to Hezekiah,

“Do not pay attention to what Hezekiah says.

-or-

“You (plur.) should ignore the words of Hezekiah.

18:32g for he misleads you when he says,

He is deceiving/tricking you (plur.) by saying,

-or-

He is lying to you that

18:32h ‘The LORD will deliver us.’

‘Yahweh will set us free.’

-or-

Yahweh will save you.
