17:35a For the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites and commanded them,

Yahweh made a covenant with the people of Israel and commanded them,

Yahweh made a solemn agreement with the people of Israel. He told them,

Yahweh made a solemn agreement with the descendants/children of Jacob. He ordered them

17:35b “Do not worship other gods or bow down to them; do not serve them or sacrifice to them.

“Do not worship (plur.) any other gods. Do not bow down to them or serve them or offer sacrifices to them.

-or-

“You must not worship any god besides me. You must not bow down to ⌊honor⌋ other gods. You must not serve them or make sacrifices to them.

-or-

not to worship other gods or honor them, serve them, or offer sacrifices to them.
