SIL Translator’s Notes on 2 Kings 15:17

15:17a In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah’s reign over Judah,

Azariah is a variant spelling of the name Uzziah. The Hebrew text has Uzziah in 15:13b, 32b, and 34b, and elsewhere in the Old Testament.

In the thirty-ninth year of Uzziah’s reign/rule over Judah,

-or-

When Uzziah had been ruling Judah for about thirty-nine (39) years,

15:17b Menahem son of Gadi became king of Israel,

Menahem son of Gadi became the king of Israel.

-or-

Gadi’s son Menahem began to rule ⌊the land/people of⌋ Israel.

15:17c and he reigned in Samaria ten years.

For ten years he was king ⌊there⌋ in ⌊the city of⌋ Samaria.

-or-

His reign lasted for ten years, and his capital city was Samaria.
