1:16a And Elijah said to King Ahaziah, “This is what the LORD says:

1:16b Is there really no God in Israel for you to inquire of His word?

‘Do you (sing.) suppose that there is no God in the land of Israel to give/tell you a word/answer?

‘You (sing.) are acting as though there were no God in the land of Israel from/of whom you could inquire!

1:16c Is that why you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?

Is that why you have sent messengers/men to Baal Zebub, the god of Ekron ⌊city⌋ ?

-or-

You (sing.) have done wrong to send your messengers to ask/inquire of Baalzebub, the ⌊false⌋ god whom the people of Ekron ⌊city⌋ worship!

1:16b-c (reordered)

‘Why did you (sing.) send ⌊your⌋ messengers to ask/consult the ⌊false⌋ god of Ekron Baal-Zebub ⌊to learn whether you will survive/recover⌋ ? You (sing.) seem to think that there is no God in Israel who could tell you!

1:16d Therefore

And so, because you (sing.) have done this,

-or-

Because you (sing.) ⌊asked/consulted that false/foreign god⌋ ,

1:16e you will not get up from the bed on which you are lying.

you (sing.) will not get up ⌊again⌋ from the bed you are lying on.

-or-

you (sing.) will not recover from your injuries.

-or-

you (sing.) are never going to leave that bed alive!

1:16f You will surely die.”

You (sing.) will surely die!’”

You (sing.) will lie there until you die!’”

-or-

You (sing.) are going to die there.’”
