1:12a Again Elijah replied, “If I am a man of God,

“If I am a man of God,” Elijah answered,

1:12b may fire come down from heaven

“may fire come down from ⌊God in⌋ heaven

⌊I ask God⌋ to send fire/lightning from the sky

1:12c and consume you and your fifty men.”

and burn/kill you (sing.) and your fifty men!”

and destroy/kill you (sing.) and your fifty soldiers!”

1:12d And the fire of God came down from heaven

Then fire from God came down from heaven

-or-

At once God ⌊sent⌋ fire/lightning from the sky,

1:12e and consumed the captain and his fifty men.

and burned/killed him and the fifty soldiers who were with him.

and it destroyed/killed the ⌊army⌋ officer and the fifty soldiers under his command.
