8:11a Solomon brought the daughter of Pharaoh up from the City of David to the palace he had built for her.

Solomon took Pharaoh’s daughter from the City of David to a new palace that he built for her.
-or-
One of Pharaoh’s daughters ⌊was King Solomon’s wife⌋. She lived in ⌊the part of Jerusalem called⌋ the City of David, but Solomon built a new palace for her.

8:11b For he said, “My wife must not live in the house of David king of Israel,

Solomon said, “My wife must not live in the palace of David, king of Israel.
-or-
The City of David was the palace of King David. King Solomon would not let his wife live there ⌊because she was a foreigner⌋.

8:11c because the places the ark of the LORD has entered are holy.”

The ark of Yahweh which is there has made it be a sacred place, ⌊and a person who is not an Israelite should not live there⌋.”
-or-
The reason is that the presence of the sacred chest of Yahweh in that place made it holy.
