7:22a And others will answer,

And people will answer them,

People will reply,

7:22b ‘Because they have forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers,

‘It was because they left Yahweh, the God of their ancestors,
-or-
‘It is because the people of Israel stopped following Yahweh, their fathers’ God.

7:22c who brought them out of the land of Egypt,

who brought their ancestors out of Egypt.
-or-
He freed their ancestors from ⌊slavery in the land of⌋ Egypt.

7:22d and have embraced other gods, worshiping and serving them—

They have started to worship and serve other gods.
-or-
But now they have begun to worship and bow down before other gods, following them instead.

7:22e because of this, He has brought all this disaster upon them.’”

Because of that Yahweh caused this disaster to happen to them.’”

That is why Yahweh has punished them so terribly.’”
