24:24a Although the Aramean army had come with only a few men,

Even though the Syrian army came with a few soldiers,

The army of the Syrians was small, but

24:24b the LORD delivered into their hand a very great army.

Yahweh handed Joash’s large army over to them.

Yahweh let them defeat the large army of Judah.

24:24c Because Judah had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers,

Judah abandoned Yahweh the God of their forefathers,

⌊The people of⌋ Judah left Yahweh, the God whom their fathers worshiped,

24:24d judgment was executed on Joash.

and this was how God punished Joash.
