13:7a Then worthless and wicked men gathered around him

Some bad men with no value went with him.

Certain useless men joined him.

13:7b to resist Rehoboam son of Solomon

They decided to conspire against Rehoboam, the son of Solomon
-or-
They rebelled against King Rehoboam, Solomon’s son.

13:7c when he was young, inexperienced

when he was a young, inexperienced man
-or-
At that time Rehoboam was a young man who didn’t yet have experience as king.

13:7d and unable to resist them.

and was not strong enough to fight them.
-or-
He was not powerful enough to stop them.
