12:11a And whenever the king entered the house of the LORD,

When the king went to the temple of Yahweh

12:11b the guards would go with him, bearing the shields,

the guards went too. They carried the shields ⌊to the temple⌋

the guards went with him, holding the shields.

12:11c and later they would return them to the guardroom.

and then brought them back into the storage room.

⌊When the king left the temple,⌋ they took the shields back to the room where they kept them.
