2:46a Then the king commanded Benaiah son of Jehoiada,

So the king ordered Jehoiada’s son Benaiah ⌊to go and kill Shimei⌋,
-or-
And then the king sent/gave orders to Benaiah the son of Jehoida.

2:46b and he went out and struck Shimei down, and he died.

and so Benaiah went and attacked him so that he died.
-or-
So Benaiah went and killed Shimei.

2:46c Thus the kingdom was firmly established in the hand of Solomon.

As a result the whole kingdom was now firmly in Solomon’s power/control.
-or-
After this Solomon was able to rule ⌊Israel⌋ as a strong king.
