20:9a So Ahab answered the messengers of Ben-hadad, “Tell my lord the king,
So Ahab said to Ben-Hadad’s messengers, “Say (plur) this to my lord the king.
-or-
So then Ahab told the messengers from/of Ben-Hadad to give him this reply/message: “Your Majesty,
20:9b ‘All that you demanded of your servant the first time I will do,
‘I, your (sing) servant, will do everything that you told me in your first message.
-or-
honorable sir, when you (sing) sent messengers the first time, I agreed to all your demands.
20:9c but this thing I cannot do.’”
But I cannot obey what you (sing) are saying/demanding now.’”
-or-
But what you (sing) are demanding now is more than I can do.”
20:9d So the messengers departed and relayed the message to Ben-hadad.
Then the messengers went away and told Ben-Hadad what Ahab had said.
-or-
So the messengers returned to Ben-Hadad with Ahab’s reply/message.
