SIL Translator’s Notes on 1 Kings 20:36

20:36a Then the prophet said to him, “Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD,

Then he told ⌊his companion⌋, “You (sing) did not listen to Yahweh’s voice.
-or-
The prophet then said to him, “You have disobeyed Yahweh’s command.
-or-
So the prophet told him that he was refusing to obey Yahweh.

20:36b as soon as you depart from me a lion will kill you.”

So a lion will attack you (sing) immediately when you leave me.”
-or-
For that reason, a lion will strike you (sing) down as soon as you go away from me.”
-or-
So a lion would kill him when he left.

20:36a-b (reordered)

Then the prophet told ⌊his companion⌋, “A lion will strike you (sing) down as soon as you leave me. For you did not do what Yahweh said/ordered!”

20:36c And when he left, a lion found him and killed him.

And when the man left the prophet, a lion did meet him, and it struck him down.
-or-
And a lion did meet him and kill him as soon as he walked away from the prophet.
-or-
Then the man left the prophet. A lion did attack the man, and it killed him.
