18:28a So they shouted louder

So then the prophets of Baal made their voices/shouts loud/louder.

Then the prophets of Baal shouted even more loudly ⌊than before⌋.

18:28b and cut themselves with knives and lances,

They cut themselves with swords and spears,

They started to cut their own ⌊skin⌋ with their swords and spears.

18:28c as was their custom,

which was their normal/regular ritual/worship.

This was what they normally/often did in their ⌊pagan⌋ worship.

18:28d until the blood gushed over them.

They cut themselves until blood gushed/poured out over them.

They were covered with their ⌊own⌋ blood.

Then, as was their custom in worship, the prophets of Baal cut themselves with their daggers and spears until they were bleeding a lot. And they shouted/called ⌊to Baal⌋ even more loudly.

Then, just as they normally did, the prophets of Baal cut themselves with knives and spears until they were dripping with blood. They shouted even more loudly.
